I quit running to try to strengthen my legs a little over one month ago. I've done a little insanity, incline walking, total body strength training. I tried a short run last week and immediately felt knee pain within my first few steps. I switched to a run/walk and the pain eased up after the first mile. So I have several thoughts on this.
- I need to replace my running shoes. I've had My Asics Nimbus for about year, but only have about 300 miles on them.
- I haven't been stretching like I need to with all of the other workouts I've been doing so it could also be tight muscles causing the knee to track incorrectly.
- Maybe I'm landing on my heels.
So Saturday, I took a barefoot mini jog on the treadmill and no pain! Hmmm. Sunday, I decided to go for a run in my Nike free running shoes. The only activities I've done in those are bike rides, weight lifting, and walking around town. My 2.4 mile run went well. It was pretty tough because the shoes don't have any bounce back, but I felt pretty good about it.
THEN!
I wake up the following morning, I can barely walk down the steps. I feel like the tin man. So no more running in my Nike Free shoes.
I'm so excited though, I found the Mizuno Precision 12 at www.runningwarehouse.com for $53! I'm hoping my experience in them are as good as the reviews describe. Otherwise, I'll have a new pair of walking shoes.
