Day of Cooking

Today was a lazy day for like me. I spent 90% of it on my couch.  I worked out this morning for maybe an hour.  30 minutes of a bodyweight workout of the day and 28 minutes of my Couch to 10k Android app. I decided to have a cheat meal of a McDonald's peppermint mocha coffee with whip cream,  which ended up being a bad decision because  now my belly is not happy.  I'm still following the Paleo diet as closely as I can.  I made sriracha tilapia and also made the same dish using shrimp  today and I'll post the link to the recipe as soon as I find it. So want to know how my #RWRunStreak is going?  I can't seem to have a streak longer than 2 days! It's ok though,  I ran 5x this week which is more than I've ever done before. Part of the reason is I'm also strength training while running so my legs/body are  getting a little tired. Tilapia with sriracha & stir-fried broccoli Sriracha Shrimp with Sauteed Spinach & P...

#RWRunStreak Day 1

I joined in on the Holiday Run Streak Challenge which is run at least one mile per day, every day, from November 22 until January 1. Due to my knee, there will be some days where I can only walk 1 the mile, but I'm participating anyway. I will also continue my Couch to 10k program and am currently on week 2 day 3. The hardest part of any run for me is that 1st mile. Today I walked 5 minutes, Ran 1 mile in around 13:38, then finished up with a 5 minute cool down. The Twitter and Google + hash tag is #RWRunSteak

Paleo Diet

Sauteed shrimp, asparagus, salad, clementines, and roasted acorn squash with cinnamon So I unofficially started the Paleo diet last Monday.  Basically it comes down to you can eat almost anything with the exception of dairy, wheat, beans, and processed sugar. Since starting, I dropped about 5lbs, but my goal wasn't to lose that much so fast.  I'm scared I'm going to lose muscle instead of fat. The first 2 days of the diet, I felt pretty good.  Then the following 3 days I felt a little nauseous which could have stemmed from my carb/sugar addiction or all of the yeast dying in my body from lack of sugar (just something I read before).  So far so good on this diet. I've wanted bread like never before and I'm not even a huge bread eater. Weight on Monday was 161 - weight today is 156. Below is just a salad with homemade guacamole, olive oil, and lemon juice, asparagus, almond slivers, acorn squash, clementines, and shrimp sauteed with c...

WOD - LLEDE FITNESS

So I found this iPad app called LLEDE FITNESS by lledescheduling llc and it's nothing fancy at all, but there is a daily workout that you can do. You can pick from beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Straight. To the point. No frills. I love it. Yesterday I did this workout: 3 Rounds Bench squats 25 30 walking lunges (weighted) jump squats 10 split squats 1 minute plank I can't walk.

Something Different

I gained 7lbs since I've been resting my knee. I love food and on top of that haven't been done much cardio. Everything else compared to running is just boring. Today I skipped for 20 minutes - 30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. I also did 2 sets of 15 reps of incline push ups, wall push ups (Easy!!), and girlie push ups. Skipping scores 20 (I had to get the hang of jumping - turn the rope, jump, turn the rope, jump, turn the rope...oops landed on the rope), 52, 49, 56, 54, 49, 34, 55, 0 (uh-oh inhaler time), 45, 39, 55, 43, 48, 52, 25 (am I experiencing runner's high or am I just dizzy??), 34, 45, 53.

New Shoes

My new babies have arrived!  The Mizuno Wave Precision 12.  I found them on sale at  www.runningwarehouse.com .  I actually wanted my next shoe to be the Brooks PureFlow, but since these were half off, I couldn't pass them up.  So I get the shoes and first thing's first...I have to go for a run.  The only thing on my mind was that run.  To give my knees a break, I guess I'll hit the trail.  I forgot it rained the night before so my babies got a little muddy.  These are not trail shoes so they weren't the best thing to run on rocks and hills with, but I felt faster in them.  I wasn't as fast as I was a month ago, but faster then I've been lately.  So far so good, but I'll test them out on the pavement in a couple weeks. I'm taking a couple weeks off running. My knee has been giving me mega issues.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

I quit running to try to strengthen my legs a little over one month ago. I've done a little insanity, incline walking, total body strength training. I tried a short run last week and immediately felt knee pain within my first few steps. I switched to a run/walk and the pain eased up after the first mile. So I have several thoughts on this. I need to replace my running shoes. I've had My Asics Nimbus for about year, but only have about 300 miles on them. I haven't been stretching like I need to with all of the other workouts I've been doing so it could also be tight muscles causing the knee to track incorrectly. Maybe I'm landing on my heels. So Saturday, I took a barefoot mini jog on the treadmill and no pain! Hmmm. Sunday, I decided to go for a run in my Nike free running shoes. The only activities I've done in those are bike rides, weight lifting, and walking around town. My 2.4 mile run went well. It was pretty tough because the shoes do...

My Old Knees

Yesterday, I did a short 2.5 miles.  It was my first run in about 9 days.  My left knee isn't giving me any issues, but now my lovely right knee decided to start whining.  I wore my Asics Gel Trail Attack 7 and ran on an unpaved hilly trail, but I should have taken my talents to a flat pavement wearing my Asic Nimbus.  So just 9 days ago, I ran a beautiful 4 miler.  Sure I felt a few niggles here and there during the first mile and you know the first mile is always killer, but I felt like a stallion after that.  Quite the opposite yesterday.  I could barely run half a mile without stopping to walk.  I did go on a 12 mile bike ride earlier and probably wasn't as hydrated as I should've been...and I'd like to give a shout out to the heat and humidity, but I was still disappointed.  I might do a short 1 miler today in the Nimbus just to see how it goes.      I found a pretty good site to get recommendations f...

My First Post!

I decided to start this blog to track my progress.  Right now I'm a very slow runner/jogger with a few kinks that I'm trying to work on.  The first time I really tried to run as an adult happened in 2006.  I was in a car accident in 1994 which left me with a titanium rod , 3 pins in my leg, and unable to run.  I had a limp for the first couple years and jogged with a limp for a while...I might still have that limp when jogging.  On top of that, I'm also dealing with chrondromalacia patellae . So in other words - I'm a hot mess.  I'm still determined to run.  I love the sport of running.  I love the gadgets, gear, and the great attitude of other runners.  My goal this year is to run an official half-marathon.   My plan for this blog is to document my running progress, weight loss, and anything else related to fitness. :)
